It 'obvious that Thomas Morr and the other kids in Berlin Morr Music have a passion for Icelandic artists: not content with having already signed MUM and Seabear (plus side projects Solely and Sin Fang Bous), have discovered the music of twin girls and sixteen Reykjavik Jófríður Ásthildur and - despite the young age delle due e delle loro compagne d'avventura - sono già pronti a pubblicare il loro album di debutto. Le islandesi hanno scelto come nome della loro band Pascal Pinon , ricordando uno di quei "fenomeni da baraccone" di inizio Novecento che girava nei circhi esibendo due teste (la seconda posticcia, ovviamente). Scelta che già di per sè suscita ammirazione e curiosità, oltre all'età anagrafica delle fanciulle. Di due giovanissime sorelle (le svedesi First Aid Kit) ci siamo già occupati con entusiasmo quest'anno, e torneremo presto a incensarle nel nostro personale best 2010. E in fondo la proposta acustica-folk-artigianale di Johanna e Klara non è così lontana da quella delle Pascal Pinon: The songs from their eponymous album are small and precious folk impressionistic sketches, recorded strictly in-house, live with a few instruments (acoustic guitar, melodica, glockenspiel, recorder), one micofono and the volume low to avoid disturbing the neighbors. The result of all spontaneous lo-fi (in the same fund, which exhibited at the beginning of label mates mum) leads to a series of squares and recognizable personal style, naive and intimate, the shy but emotional delicacy, sung in Icelandic and sometimes in English, perhaps a bit 'in the repetitive pattern but always pleasant and elegant in their simplicity pure songwriting. So much so that it's no surprise at the end of Auditors, which is run by the Morr these girls with the contract ready to sign. A little 'soft warmth for the coming winter months. Not to be missed.
