Those Dancing Days - Daydreams & Nightmares

Daydreams & Nightmares è un disco di sicura e ammirevole maturità e fa capire anche ai pochi dubbiosi che le TDD non sono una band di simpatiche e talentuose ragazzine, ma cinque musiciste di primissimo piano nella scena indie scandinava, ambiziose e coraggiose, in piena e costante evoluzione. Rispetto agli esordi – fatta eccezione per I’ll be yours – ci sono meno episodi di frizzante immediatezza (quelli di cui ci eravamo innamorati due anni fa), ma si tratta di una evidente e giustificata conseguenza del lavoro che le svedesi stanno facendo su sè stesse, sulla struttura delle loro canzoni e sul loro suono.

Norma Sass - Hunting For Treasures


In attesa dell'uscita imminente dell'album delle svedesi Those Dancing Days, oggi vi propongo un altro quintetto tutto femminile: le Norma Sass . Basate ad Oslo e reduci da un ep già coperto dall'airplay radiofonico locale, le ragazze hanno da poco pubblicato il loro disco d'esordio dal suggestivo titolo Hunting For Treasures . Trascinate dalla voce potente e calibrata di Thea Glenton Raknes, le norvegesi propongono un pop-rock dinamico con radici nel cantautorato femminile anglo-americano e ambizioni indie, puntando su melodie di canonica immediatezza impreziosite da arrangiamenti non scontati, che tessono insieme in trame mottled, shiny ringing guitars, vocals and piano. The effect is indeed uneven success, with some repetition of too much, but songs such as dynamic and refined Japan, Fish tank, I know they're hip and delicious hopless Robbery , so pleasant as nicely in the unusual (manicured) details, they weigh the scales on the side of the talent of the five girls, and closely resemble the style of an elegantly eclectic bands like the Swedes Hellsongs (who will be missed very much, unfortunately ...).

Two or three years ago we were impressed by a kindly ep just released a new band from Gothenburg, The Greencoats , with undeniable talent who brought a new interpretation of pop-rock psychedelic sixties and seventies, filtered through the colored lenses of the Brit-pop, shoegaze and early Teenage Fanclub. In the last months of last year the worthy Tomte Recordings Stemp has given the band's first album of Branch Spatalovic A Blend Of Silk & Satin : Ten pieces inspired by the models mentioned above, which could come out safely from a disk of Crosby '69 ( There is no way back philology is free) or from the repertoire of groups of the early / mid nineties - I think Charlatans, Bluetones, Kula Shaker - trying to actualize the essence (not the fins) of the English psychedelic rock band in full-wave brit pop, and all the equipment (used in a more or less effective) of body whorl, the unmistakable aroma of Indian sitar, mesmeric jingle jangle guitar, electric acidic distortion, chorus deftly superimposed and so on.

Lo stesso segnale che lancia oggi, ipotizzando una FIAT sempre più internazionalizzata, e quindi sempre meno permeabile dalle pastoie che gli stati nazionali ancora si permettono di “costruire”.
E' ormai chiaro a tutti che ad un capitalismo internazionale non possono corrispondere stati nazionali. Oggi sta avvenendo, in ben altra scala, ciò che avvenne nel medioevo, quando i primi mercanti trovavano insopportabili certi vincoli "statuali" (qualcuno forse ricorderà l'esclamazione: "un fiorino!", pronunciata dal doganiere nel celebre film "Non ci resta che piangere").

Left Upper Tiber Umbro Ecology Liberty believes that the appeal launched by a senior member of the Democratic Party, as the Hon. Walter Verini, represents a valuable stimulus for a coalition of center-left which still has not, and is a euphemism, to find the unity for which SEL has always maintained the absolute necessity.

Ammetto di avere un cattivo rapporto con tutto ciò che riguarda Peter Bjorn & John. Certo, qualche anno fa anch'io sono corso a comperare Writer's Block e fischiettavo volentieri Young folks, poi però non sono più riuscito ad entrare in sintonia con le scelte artistiche (separati o insieme) del trio. In attesa che esca il nuovo album (che vira verso il rock e - lo dico subito - non mi piace e non credo che recensirò) mi è capitato per le mani questo quarto album della svedese Lisa Miskovsky , Violent Sky , produced by Bjorn Yttling own.

Lisa is not a newcomer in the Scandinavian scene: more than thirty years behind hit records (the last in 2006), his signature in a hit worldwide but not exactly memorable patient ( Shape of my heart of the Backstreet Boys) and even a parallel to snowboarders and hockey player. Violent Sky is a small turning point in his artistic career and is worth some careful listening if only to reflect on an interesting point of the Scandinavian female singer-songwriter, recently characterized by an anxiety that seems to "modernization" by well-defined edges and targets uncertain.
