Stina Stjern - Days Like Waves
certainly can not say that the name of Stina Stjern is particularly well known in the Scandinavian indie scene. Yet the Norwegian musician can boast of a biography of several paragraphs long: it started as a teenager with Quintrophenia, then moved to the riot-girls Supervixen, then moved to Copenhagen where he started all over again, and then flew overseas implanted a long creative break in a loft in Brooklyn before returning to Oslo in the recording studio . Days Like Waves is the evocative title of his solo debut, and there is no doubt that is one way to describe so well for the performance of his album wavering as the undertow that characterizes many electro-acoustic pieces. I came across by chance in Songs From My Beautiful Colourball , Debut album of Norwegian Moller A, released by the small but interesting Lazy Acre Records label last summer, and I must admit that it was a great little luck. I do not know virtually nothing about A (there is very little information on the network), unless that is part of a band called Team of Me that sooner or later we will have to say something, but first of all his songs to speak for him. Songs, the debut album of A, there are ten, and I'm really ten small gems of folk-pop sound conceived and recorded in a very traditional but with a passionate gentleness that surprises at every listening.
Your Tracks like quiet little house, or Midnight Twente-four hands and In the lights of the world can think of other singer / songwriters such as Scandinavian Egil Olsen, Melpo Mene, Bjorn Kleinhenz, Jose Gonzalez, The Little Hands Of Asphalt, or Modde The Tallest Man On Earth but has a melancholic serenity, a little daughter, 'Kings of Convenience, which reminds me a lot personally to mind the Smog less shady, the essentiality and hypnotic twilight of Mark Kozelek and especially the bright squares of English winter (but Swedish d 'adoption) Ant. Everything, from first to last minute, it's nice, charming, spontaneous, and rarefied touch of mandolin, honesty and immediacy ispiratissimo, with the tips of true and deep emotion (for example, by How to lead you home and to the final As the choir descend s).
If you like the genre, it really is an album that you can not miss.

Daydreams & Nightmares è un disco di sicura e ammirevole maturità e fa capire anche ai pochi dubbiosi che le TDD non sono una band di simpatiche e talentuose ragazzine, ma cinque musiciste di primissimo piano nella scena indie scandinava, ambiziose e coraggiose, in piena e costante evoluzione. Rispetto agli esordi – fatta eccezione per I’ll be yours – ci sono meno episodi di frizzante immediatezza (quelli di cui ci eravamo innamorati due anni fa), ma si tratta di una evidente e giustificata conseguenza del lavoro che le svedesi stanno facendo su sè stesse, sulla struttura delle loro canzoni e sul loro suono.

In attesa dell'uscita imminente dell'album delle svedesi Those Dancing Days, oggi vi propongo un altro quintetto tutto femminile: le Norma Sass . Basate ad Oslo e reduci da un ep già coperto dall'airplay radiofonico locale, le ragazze hanno da poco pubblicato il loro disco d'esordio dal suggestivo titolo Hunting For Treasures . Trascinate dalla voce potente e calibrata di Thea Glenton Raknes, le norvegesi propongono un pop-rock dinamico con radici nel cantautorato femminile anglo-americano e ambizioni indie, puntando su melodie di canonica immediatezza impreziosite da arrangiamenti non scontati, che tessono insieme in trame mottled, shiny ringing guitars, vocals and piano. The effect is indeed uneven success, with some repetition of too much, but songs such as dynamic and refined Japan, Fish tank, I know they're hip and delicious hopless Robbery , so pleasant as nicely in the unusual (manicured) details, they weigh the scales on the side of the talent of the five girls, and closely resemble the style of an elegantly eclectic bands like the Swedes Hellsongs (who will be missed very much, unfortunately ...).
For the moment let's keep an eye on could be the beginning of an interesting career.

Two or three years ago we were impressed by a kindly ep just released a new band from Gothenburg, The Greencoats , with undeniable talent who brought a new interpretation of pop-rock psychedelic sixties and seventies, filtered through the colored lenses of the Brit-pop, shoegaze and early Teenage Fanclub. In the last months of last year the worthy Tomte Recordings Stemp has given the band's first album of Branch Spatalovic A Blend Of Silk & Satin : Ten pieces inspired by the models mentioned above, which could come out safely from a disk of Crosby '69 ( There is no way back philology is free) or from the repertoire of groups of the early / mid nineties - I think Charlatans, Bluetones, Kula Shaker - trying to actualize the essence (not the fins) of the English psychedelic rock band in full-wave brit pop, and all the equipment (used in a more or less effective) of body whorl, the unmistakable aroma of Indian sitar, mesmeric jingle jangle guitar, electric acidic distortion, chorus deftly superimposed and so on.
In truth it is difficult to imagine a group more "outdated" by Greencoats (not that the genre itself is dead, but follow different paths, more hybrid and less stringent dell'ortosossia style and sound of the Swedish band), but when our push on a hypnotic and energetic power-pop à la Dandy Warhols ( Stay a while , A photograph of memories , Can not find the time for us , all on the verge of copying ...! ) are if anything exciting, amusing and entertaining. In a couple of episodes also appears the gracious voice of Malin Dahlberg (We Are Soldiers We Have Guns).

Lo stesso segnale che lancia oggi, ipotizzando una FIAT sempre più internazionalizzata, e quindi sempre meno permeabile dalle pastoie che gli stati nazionali ancora si permettono di “costruire”.
E' ormai chiaro a tutti che ad un capitalismo internazionale non possono corrispondere stati nazionali. Oggi sta avvenendo, in ben altra scala, ciò che avvenne nel medioevo, quando i primi mercanti trovavano insopportabili certi vincoli "statuali" (qualcuno forse ricorderà l'esclamazione: "un fiorino!", pronunciata dal doganiere nel celebre film "Non ci resta che piangere").

Left Upper Tiber Umbro Ecology Liberty believes that the appeal launched by a senior member of the Democratic Party, as the Hon. Walter Verini, represents a valuable stimulus for a coalition of center-left which still has not, and is a euphemism, to find the unity for which SEL has always maintained the absolute necessity.
We think it's time to say enough to the tactics exasperated all'attendismo, decisions taken in "secret rooms" where the feverish frantic negotiations on the names of possible candidates, but which lack a more "high" politics, an idea on how to overcome this critical phase of the economy and society of our district.
SEL believes it is essential to a sharp acceleration in the process towards the single candidate of the center-left. We believe that the many distinctions, the hesitation, the personalities, the positions taken by the press that we are witnessing in recent times not needed. What is needed instead is to responsibly get out a project for the future of the city, opening up to new people who also represent a new energy and new commitment in the management of public affairs.
If you intend to really work hard in this direction, Left Ecology Freedom is ready to do its part to put the alternative tactics and "politicism" the coalition and to present their point program on issues of waste, health of the plan and all those instances that now more than ever, require specific policies and unmistakably left.

Ammetto di avere un cattivo rapporto con tutto ciò che riguarda Peter Bjorn & John. Certo, qualche anno fa anch'io sono corso a comperare Writer's Block e fischiettavo volentieri Young folks, poi però non sono più riuscito ad entrare in sintonia con le scelte artistiche (separati o insieme) del trio. In attesa che esca il nuovo album (che vira verso il rock e - lo dico subito - non mi piace e non credo che recensirò) mi è capitato per le mani questo quarto album della svedese Lisa Miskovsky , Violent Sky , produced by Bjorn Yttling own.
Lisa is not a newcomer in the Scandinavian scene: more than thirty years behind hit records (the last in 2006), his signature in a hit worldwide but not exactly memorable patient ( Shape of my heart of the Backstreet Boys) and even a parallel to snowboarders and hockey player. Violent Sky is a small turning point in his artistic career and is worth some careful listening if only to reflect on an interesting point of the Scandinavian female singer-songwriter, recently characterized by an anxiety that seems to "modernization" by well-defined edges and targets uncertain. We listened to it, recently, many recordings by artists who work to give their songs a shape and a sound that would define the critical field with the adjective, or "current", which translated means a pigeon-song structure more or less traditional inside buildings more or less based on large and complex rhythms and odd electronic sounds. Dopo due anni di lavoro (compreso un crash dell'hard disc che ha cancellato il disco già finito, costringendo la band a ri-registrare tutto da capo) i My Little Pony ritornano con un nome ( Mylittlepony ) ed un disco ( Making Marks ) nuovi. Il titolo del pezzo che apre l'album , A miracle , descrive bene l'impressione che avevamo avuto ascoltando le canzoni preziose ed aggraziate del precedente Think Too Much : i cinque ragazzi di Oslo erano e sono abilissimi nel plasmare un pop morbido e di intimità cantautorale, e la canzone citata is not that a small business card of their talent.

Fortress Round My Heart , l'album che ha lanciato questa ventiquattrenne norvegese, cantautrice dall'animo rock dotata di una impressionante energia vocale (e non solo), è uscito un paio d'anni fa, è circolato in Inghilterra e negli States ed è ancora in promozione con un singolo, appena edito, in cui la Nostra duetta con Iggy Pop in una "nuova" versione di Oh my God .
